Bangor High grad to vie for national prize
Rebecca
Ye will begin her college career in the fall at the Washington
University School of Medicine in St. Louis, but she’ll travel to
the Gateway City later this week.
Not for student orientation or class registration, though.
The recent Bangor High School graduate will go up against 49
others for the right to represent the United States in the
international Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition. The U.S.
winner, to be decided on June 20, will travel later this year to
Stockholm, Sweden, to compete against other countries.

Maine Student to Represent U.S. in International Stockholm Junior
Water Prize Competition
Alexandria, Va. – Rebecca Ye of Bangor, Maine was named the U.S.
winner of the 2010 Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) – the most
prestigious international competition for water-related research –
during a ceremony this weekend at the Sheraton City Center in St.
Louis, Mo.

The Greater Augusta Utility District is accepting applications for
a Maintenance Foreman to perform skilled journeyman-level work in
the maintenance and repair of the District’s water, wastewater,
collection, distribution, and treatment systems. Work involves the
inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of electrical and
mechanical equipment.

Basic WW Class in Augusta Sponsored by JETCC
This course provides thorough instruction in how to safely
and effectively operate and maintain a wastewater treatment plant,
and is an excellent means of preparing for the Maine Wastewater
Operator 1 and 2 exam. Through a combination of classroom
presentations and tours of the treatment facilities, a wide
variety of topics will be covered, including the reasons why waste
must be treated, the roles and responsibilities of a treatment
plant operator, the use of safe practices and procedures, and the
equipment and processes used n wastewater facilities.

Eared Grebe Peaks Birders Interest at Sanford Sewerage District
The
Sanford Sewerage Treatment Facility is a well known location to
birders in Maine. It is viewed as a desirable and worthwhile stop
when in the area or as a destination when taking the field seeking
birds. At any given time many species of shorebirds, waterfowl and
perching birds can be found around the open ponds and surrounding

Facility
As a result of a strategic planning session in 2009, the MWWCA has
developed guidelines and helpful tips at hosting an open house at
your wastewater treatment facility. We encourage wastewater
environmentalists to
host an open host at you facility and then tell us about it! To learn more about this
important aspect of educating your ratepayers and the public on
