NEWEA 2006 Operator Award at Annual NEWEA Conference in Boston,
Massachusetts

Al Jellison of the Bangor, Maine WasteWater Treatment Facility
Receives the Maine Operator Award from outgoing NEWEA President
Phyllis Rand.
Al Jellison was recognized with the
Maine Operator Award for 2006 at the New England Water Environment
Association's 75th Annual Conference on January 24, 2007 at the
Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. During the
Awards Luncheon Program Al was presented with the Award by NEWEA
President Phyllis Rand.
Al's career has spanned thirty years in
the wastewater field. His career started with the city of brewer where
he attained the position of chief operator and then he moved across
the river and has worked for the city of Bangor for the past 24 years.
He has held various positions while in Bangor including pretreatment
coordinator and is currently he Chief Operator. Some of Al's
accomplishments in Bangor include establishing a working safety
program and bringing the pretreatment program up-to-date after he was
promoted to pretreatment coordinator. Al's career can be characterized
by his willingness to help others excel in this field of work. This
past year was no different. Many operators benefited from classes Al
has participated in, most notably preparation for state certification
exams. The Maine WasteWater Control Association has also benefited
from Al's willingness to support the Association's mission and has
held many appointed and elected positions through the years. Al's
contributions to our field have led to the improvement to the water
quality on the Penobscot River and throughout the State of Maine.

Established
in 1929, the New England Water Environment Association, Inc. is a
not-for-profit organization whose objective is the advancement of
fundamental knowledge and technology of design, construction,
operation and management of waste treatment works and other water
pollution control activities and dedication to the preservation of
water quality and water resources. Comprised of the six New England
states, NEWEA serves over 2,000 members and is a member association of
the Water Environment Federation, an internationally renowned
organization.
