The Maine Department of Environmental Protection recognizes the staff of the Eagle Lake Water & Sewer District, in particular, Gerald Raymond, Superintendent of the District, for accomplishments in the wastewater field and water quality improvement. The Eagle Lake Water & Sewer District employs four employees, (2 licensed operators in both water and wastewater treatment, one maintenance specialist and one part-time administrative assistant) with over 52 years of combined service. These dedicated individuals work as a team to supply customers with both drinking water and wastewater treatment via 2 aerated treatment lagoons, 2 storage lagoons with a combined capacity of 14.6 million gallons and a slow rate spray irrigation system to 57 acres of wooded irrigation field. Along with everyday activities at the water and wastewater facilities, the staff have found the time to broaden their duties to include administering the Small Community Grant Program to provide properly operating individual subsurface wastewater systems for homeowners outside the service area of the Eagle Lake Wastewater Treatment Facility. Gerald Blair, assistant operator, is also the local plumbing inspector and code enforcement officer for the Towns of Eagle Lake and Winterville. The staff also services the Town of Wallagrass’s community subsurface waste disposal system along with providing pumping and treatment for approximately 72 holding tanks adjacent to waterbodies as well as septage from surrounding communities. Because of Gerald Raymond and the accompanying staff’s “can do” approach to their job, Eagle Lake Water and Sewer District has not only achieved a superb compliance record at the main waste water treatment facility, but they have branched out in other capacities and duties to help the surrounding towns and unorganized territories assure good water quality in their lakes and rivers into the future. The Department presented this certificate of Achievement to Gerald Raymond and the staff of the Eagle Lake Water and Sewer District for their unending commitment to the environment and their community.
