In the 20th anniversary of the first WEFTEC Operations Challenge, held this year at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C., teams of wastewater operations personnel traveled from all over the U.S. and Canada to compete for the right to be called the best wastewater treatment operators in North America.
The Team
placed 4th in the pipe repair and flow meter installation Collections All in all, Maine was very well represented by its hard working and energetic Operations Challenge Team: Brian Cataldo, Captain, Saco WWTF, Mary Anne Peck, OMI-Biddeford, Dan Laflamme, Laflamme Electric-Biddeford, Travis Peaselee, Saco WWTF, and Skip Clough, Coach, South Berwick. They all enjoyed their trip to the Capitol, and look forward to competing again in 2006.

Force
Maine, New England’s Champions and MWWCA’s 2005 Operations Challenge
Team, acquitted themselves with honor at the Big Show, taking first
place in Division II’s Process Control event, and finishing 5th place
overall in a field of 28 teams. 
Event, 12th in Laboratory skills, and were 17th in Godwin Pump/
Maintenance. Taking a stiff penalty for roughing the mannequin (“the
worst we’ve seen today”), they trailed the field in Safety – a
confined space rescue scenario.
