John True Promoted to DEP’s Environmental
Engineering Services Manager
Congratulations to John True on his promotion (effective 8/23/10)
to Environmental Engineering Services Manager in the DEP’s
Division of Water Quality Management (Steve McLaughlin’s former
position).
The Environmental Engineering Services Manager serves as the
manager for the Engineering Unit that oversees the following
programs: Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund, State Wastewater
Grants, Combined Sewer Overflows, Overboard Discharge Removal
Grants, and Small Community Grants (for replacement of
malfunctioning septic systems).
John’s technical and managerial skills, combined with his 26 years
of experience at the DEP in the various programs within the
Engineering Unit, made him the ideal candidate for this position.
John has served as the Coordinator of the DEP’s Combined Sewer
Overflow program since 2001. With his promotion, that position is
now currently vacant. It is the DEP’s goal to fill the CSO
Coordinator position by early October. In the interim please
continue to direct any CSO questions to John.
If you have any questions or issues that in the past would have
been directed to Steve McLaughlin, please contact John at
287-7808, or john.n.true@maine.gov. We look forward to working
with John in his new position to protect and improve the waters of
the great State of Maine!
Maine Management Candidate School
JETCC,
Maine DEP and DHHS, Maine Wastewater Control Association, and
Maine Water Utilities Association are pleased to offer the
Management Candidate School (MCS). This 12-month training program,
which first started in Maine in September 2009, provides the
intensive training, networking and skill-development coursework
necessary to prepare the next generation of water and wastewater
managers and leaders. With many of Maine’s current water and
wastewater managers at or near retirement age, it is hoped that
the individuals who complete the MCS program will be able to
continue the critical work of managing the state’s water and
wastewater treatment infrastructure. This exciting new training
program is aimed at mid-level operators with management potential.
For information about current and upcoming MCS programs, click on
the links below. For general information, contact JETCC at
207-253-8020.

Eared Grebe Peaks Birders Interest at Sanford Sewerage District
The
Sanford Sewerage Treatment Facility is a well known location to
birders in Maine. It is viewed as a desirable and worthwhile stop
when in the area or as a destination when taking the field seeking
birds. At any given time many species of shorebirds, waterfowl and
perching birds can be found around the open ponds and surrounding
woodlands. Professional photographer and birder enthusiast Kirk
Rogers gives his days
account of seeking
out the Eared Grebe at the Sanford Treatment Facility.........
