Flooding in Aroostook County
Cripples Area

Parts of Aroostook County have been hit with the worst flooding in
history. Many treatment facilities have had significant impacts to
their infrastructure and will be hard pressed in the next few
weeks to get things back to normal.
While there have not been any formal requests yet any formal we
believe many of these communities would welcome some experienced
help next week to help with repairs, interim pumping setups, and
normal duties, once the water levels are down. In anticipation of
that potential need we are requesting to the membership of MWWCA
to see if there are experienced operators who would be willing to
go to the County possibly this week to help some of these
facilities.
We are in the process of developing a standby contact list of
people who are willing to help restore water and sewer service to
portions of Aroostook County where some systems have failed. Then
if we get some requests for help we could match them up with a
facility. If you are able to help restore wastewater treatment
services to portions of the county please contact the MWWCA via
this email address
MWWCA-Members-owner@imail.memun.org or contact the Maine Rural
Water Association.

Cleaner water starts with matching funds
Legislature should let voters decide whether to tap federal
dollars for water projects
Maine
voters have long taken pride in protecting the water quality of
our lakes, rivers, streams, and coastal areas. This foresight has
protected these treasured resources and also ensured our citizens
have safe public drinking water.
Passage
of LD 2169 will allow voters to decide whether they want to
continue supporting these efforts.
We hope that the
Legislature will allow the voters to be heard.
Safe
Medicine Disposal for ME
Maine initiates new pilot
program for medicine disposal. Flushing medications is no longer
acceptable due to environmental concerns, and putting them in the
garbage is also discouraged. A pilot program, which ME DEP is part
of, will be placing a limited number of postage-paid mailers at
various Maine pharmacies starting May 12th.
