Maine Wastewater Operators were recently acknowledged at the Annual New England Water Environment Association's 76th Annual Conference on January 31, 2008 at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The Awards luncheon on the last day of the conference set the stage to recognize those operators and wastewater treatment facilities who have dedicated themselves to protecting Maine's waterways.

Maine Force: First Place Overall in Division II and First Place in the Process Control Event in Div. II


 

George Motycka of the Castine Wastewater Treatment Facility is the Maine recipient of the NEWEA Operator Award

George Motycka is the recipient of the NEWEA Operator Award for the state of Maine. George is the Superintendent for the Town of Castine Wastewater Treatment Plant. He has held that position for just three years, but has made significant strides to bring the plant into compliance.


 

Bangor Maine Wastewater Treatment Facility Recognized
with Utility of the Year Award

This year’s Utility of the Year Award is presented to the Bangor Wastewater Treatment Facility in Bangor Maine. The utility serves a population of 43,000 people and has 23 employees. They are responsible for the operation of an 18 MGD plant as well as 157 miles of collection systems.


 

Janet Abrahamson recipient of the WEF Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award for 2007

This year’s WEF Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award is presented to Janet Abrahamson from Brunswick, Maine. Janet began her career in the laboratory at the Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District in Waterville, ME in 1985.


 

Robert Knight is the Maine NEWEA Operator Safety Award recipient for 2007

Robert Knight is the NEWEA Operator Safety Award recipient. Mr. Knight, from the Biddeford, Maine Wastewater Treatment Plant was unanimously selected by his staff for this award.

 

Phyllis Rand - Immediate Past President NEWEA 2007

Phyllis Rand is the immediate Past President of the New England Water Environment Association. Ms. Rand was recognized with the Immediate Past Presidents Pin.

 

Maine's Jennifer Rowe of Bangor High School is the Recipient of 2007 Stocholm Junior Water Prize

Stockholm Junior Water Prize Project Title: "Identification and Quantification of Estrogen Receptor Agonists in Maine Lakes"

 

 


Established in 1929, the New England Water Environment Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose objective is the advancement of fundamental knowledge and technology of design, construction, operation and management of waste treatment works and other water pollution control activities and dedication to the preservation of water quality and water resources. Comprised of the six New England states, NEWEA serves over 2,000 members and is a member association of the Water Environment Federation, an internationally renowned organization.
