Michael Grove of the Augusta Sanitary District Receives NEWEA'S Alfred E. Peloquin Award for 2006 at Annual NEWEA Conference in Boston, Massachusetts

Michael Grove of the Augusta Sanitary District Receives the Alfred E. Peloquin Award from outgoing NEWEA President Phyllis Rand.

Michael Grove was recognized with the Alfred E. Peloquin Award for 2006 at the New England Water Environment Association's 75th Annual Conference on January 24, 2007 at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. During the Awards Luncheon Program Mike was presented with the Award  by NEWEA President Phyllis Rand.

Mike Grove started his tenure at the Augusta Sanitary District in 1978 in the lab of the primary treatment plant. When the plant was expanded to secondary treatment, Mike was promoted to Plant manager, a position he continues to hold today.

In his years with the District, Mike has been an integral part of the management team of the District, and has been involved with plant expansions and Combined Sewer Overflow Projects. He has continually looked for ways and made recommendations for operational efficiencies that have saved the District, and its ratepayers, thousands of dollars over the years.

In the past year, Mikes role within the District has changed as the result of a complete and total merger of the water district and the sanitary district into one utility district. Throughout this merger, Mike was the point person to insure that the transition occurred as smoothly as possible. He created and restructured job descriptions for the affected personnel, set up the organizational structure for the restructured departments, insured that cross training occurred between water and sanitary employees, and overall worked to insure that the changes went well.

Mike has also served as the Governmental Affairs Chair for the Maine Wastewater Control Association for the last 3 1/2 years. During the past legislative session, Mike worked tirelessly in an attempt to secure the states local match for the Federal SRF Program. Although unsuccessful in that effort, Mike was able to educate those he came into contact with about the SRF Program and the need to secure funding for environmental and infrastructure replacement projects.

Mike is a dedicated manager, passionate WWTP plant overseer, and is a true environmentalist dedicated to cleaning up the rivers and streams in the state.
