By Heidi Gage Big adventures recently at my house! The effluent pump in my septic system failed (AGAIN!) This is the second failed pump in seven years. How come I don’t hear about this happening to other people? I’ve learned these pumps are only warrantied for a year.
At any rate, locating someone willing to repair the system (replace the pump) turned into a 10-day nail biting adventure. If I’ve learned nothing else during this experience, I’ve learned the term “small trench” is relative (see accompanying photo) It looks much worse than it is, I suppose. Quite dramatic and thrilling for two young kids to watch, never mind what the parents think! Despite all the angst associated with this situation, I’m counting my blessings. • The pump didn’t fail while I had a house full of company for a week in early October. • I found someone willing to do the job, and do it right. (Retrofitting the system so future repairs can be done without heavy equipment digging up the lawn) • I found excellent advice from some of you, dear readers. Everything happens for a reason. I may never know why; perhaps this will be good for a laugh 10 years from now! Peace to you all (and Happy New Year!) Heidi
