Phyllis Arnold Rand receives the
gavel from
outgoing NEWEA President Douglas Miller.

Phyllis Rand began her volunteer
efforts in the wastewater field beginning in the early 1990's as Chair
of the MWWCA Ad Hoc Wastewater Laboratory Certification Committee.
She served as the Maine Wastewater
Control Associations President in 1995. Following her presidential
term she served on NEWEA's and MWWCA's Executive Committees as the
NEWEA Maine State Director. After her term as Director ended, Phyllis
served as Chair of NEWEA"s Laboratory Practices Committee.
In 1996 Phyllis was recognized for her
efforts in the wastewater laboratory field when she received the WEF
Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award. She is a Charter Member of the
Crystal Crucible Society and a member of the Select Society of
Sanitary Sludge Shovelers.
Not only is Phyllis a 2003 High Honors
Graduate from Andover College where she received an Associates Degree
in Business Administration, she also received the Dean's Award and
Brenda Berry Award for Academic Excellence from Andover College.
Phyllis's educational efforts continued as
she graduated with High Honors in the Water and Wastewater Treatment
Plant Operations Program from the Fayetteville, North Carolina
Technical Community College.
Phyllis began her career in 1989 as the
Quality Control Technician / Pretreatment Inspector at the
Lewiston-Auburn Water Pollution Control Authority (LAWPCA). She is
currently the Laboratory Technician at LAWPCA. Phyllis holds a Maine
Grade V-B Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators license, the highest
level of operator certification given in the State of Maine.
Phyllis is a 20 year resident of Lewiston,
Maine where she resides with her husband Robert, son Daniel, and
daughter Linda.
