CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT 2006

André Gendreau and Gorman Chamberlain
St. Agatha Wastewater Treatment Facility

The Department would like to recognize André Gendreau, chief operator at the Grand Isle Wastewater Treatment Facility, and Gorman Chamberlain, operator at the St. Agatha Wastewater Treatment Facility for their recent work in St. Agatha as well as their continuing efforts protecting Maine’s environment.

The St. Agatha facility had a history of compliance issues and near-violations through the end of 2004 and needed a process control plan to help the operators straighten things out. Working with DEP staff, André and Gorman determined the causes of multiple compliance issues and solved the problems bringing the facility back into compliance. They then worked to develop a process control plan and a set of SOPs which have helped them keep the facility in continuous compliance since April 2005.

André Gendreau began his career in Grand Isle working in both drinking water & wastewater. He passed his Grade 1 exam in May of 2001 and was upgraded in October of 2001 to a Grade 2 wastewater operator. After a brief period at Fraser Paper, he returned to the Grand Isle systems as operator in charge. In late 2004, André was hired to supervise operations and help develop a process control strategy with Gorman at the St. Agatha facility. In 2005, Andre also worked as a consultant to the Town of Frenchville to help license a land application site as part of the upgrade at the town’s wastewater facility.

Gorman Chamberlain became a Grade 2 wastewater operator in November of 2002. Gorman began his career at the Sinclair Sanitary District, assisting in the operation of the lagoon/spray irrigation wastewater treatment system. In late 2004, he joined André as an operator at the St. Agatha Wastewater Treatment Facility. Gorman recently passed the exam and became a Grade 3 wastewater operator. As well as performing his primary duties at the St. Agatha facility and Sinclair Sanitary District, Gorman has obtained a working knowledge of the Grand Isle Wastewater Facility, thus having the ability to give Andre a break when needed.

The Department would like to recognize Andre Gendreau and Gorman Chamberlain for their outstanding professionalism, continuing efforts in the wastewater treatment field and overall work protecting the waters of the State of Maine.

Continue with the great work and thank you for a job well done!
